IPP + Social Recreation Case Study
Canine Valley offers one-to-one social recreational sessions for individuals with developmental disabilities, built around a trained dog. Sessions are led by owner and lead trainer Laura Teragawa and take place out in the community — parks, trails, playgrounds, walking paths — wherever the participant is most likely to engage.
Laura began working with Victoria in 2024, meeting twice a week. When a serious illness in her family disrupted the routine that had anchored her, she volunteered her time so the sessions wouldn't stop. Sixteen months later, they are still going. That's the whole argument for this work: recurring, structured activity built into a program plan gives a person something steady to hold on to when the rest of life isn't steady at all.
